The weak has to suffer and the powerful has the power to do anything proves to be wrong. Human rights violation is not tolerable and it is against law has been proven.
Bal krishna Dhungel who was convicted by the Supreme Court (SC) for the 1998 murder of Ujjan Kumar Shrestha of Okhaldhunga with a life term jail and confiscation of property was arrested and sent to Dillibazaar prison.
The Okhaldhunga District Court in 2004 had convicted Dhungel for the murder of Shrestha and sentenced his to life imprisonment, but in 2006, the Rajbiraj Appellate Court gave him a clean chit. The apex court in 2010 overturned Rajbiraj Appellate Court’s decision and upheld Okhaldhunga District Court’s verdict.
The decision comes in action after the Supreme Court on April 13 had ordered IGP of Nepal Police to arrest Dhungel and put him behind bars within a week.
Dhungel was elected as a lawmaker in 2008 Constituent Assembly elections. the then government of Baburam Bhattarai in November 2011 had recommended presidential clemency for Dhungel, but it was rejected by the court. With due obeying the SC order Dhungel was enjoying political protection.
In 1998 Ujjan was brutally murdered and later, his brother Ganesh Kumar who filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Okhaldhunga was also killed by the same group.
His arrest come with the message that no matter who or what if there is human rights violence then he or she shall be punished according to law.
The political culture of Nepal has been protecting and promoting criminals and organized crimes at various level. The message of Dhungel comes at a time to give clear message that no one is beyond law and there is law of rule still in Nepal
