The British Ambassador to Nepal Andrew James Sparkes has resigned from his position of Ambassadorship to Nepal quitting British Foreign Service. The resignation came in action with a controversial statement that was made over his suggestion to Constituent Assembly (CA) members to ensure people´s rights to change religion in the new statute which was later prompted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon him.
In a press statement issued by the UK embassy states, " Sparkes has taken a personal decision to leave the British Foreign Service after thirty years of service and three ambassadorial posts. He wishes to have time to pursue other opportunities outside government."
Normally, British ambassador has a three-year term and Sparkes arrived in Kathmandu as the British ambassador to Nepal in April, 2013.
