Nepal Government censorship is not the solution against Sexual and Violent content

Recently the Nepal Government's Ministry of Information Communications and Technology (MoICT) has issues a new directives to the regulator Nepal Telecommunication Authority(NTA) in view of banning sexual and violent content. The new directives clearly indicates a ban on porn sites in the country.

Citing that the recently enacted Penal Code has banned the exchange, publication and broadcasting of any indecent material, the MoICT has directed the NTA to start implementing the provision with immediate effect ASAP.

The directive also urges telecom service providers, internet service providers and the general public not to get involved in the exchange and promotion of such sites.

The whole idea of Nepal Government trying to blame the Sexual and violent content for the irregularities and sexual behaviors is so wrong.

I think it is the patriarchy  mentality that is trying to incorporate censorship in the name of social welfare. It is very wrong to blame everything and trying to turn a blind eye on such a sensitive issue like this. Sexual behavior or outrage  cannot be addressed by censorship but it can be only be overcome by proper core values and clarity in communication. The whole idea of suppressing the citizen's right in the name of sexuality and rape culture can be a good filmy dialogue but not a solution to the problem. Rape or sexual behaviors are an outcome of mindset and values that has been practiced in our society. The outcome of violent behavior is the direct outcome of prejudice, orthodox and misogyny against attributes of women and feminism. Sexuality and human behavior are as normal as humans can be but  instead of working on better core values blaming everything to content is turning a blind eye to the problem.

There is a clarity in terms of  what is wrong and right but trying to control the choice of people is against citizen values and human rights. Why should we follow what few people in the power say is right or wrong. its a public welfare issue and it has the right for the public to decide not some old patriarchy mindset people.

The whole idea of censorship in the name of social welfare is an wrong where the Nepal government cannot and should not enforce its rules and regulation upon the citizens. It is a very wrong democratic practice and it is against the democratic value to incorporate censorship in any name.

The Nepal Government should first do a research on this topic and further do open consultation for developing proper mechanism and policies rather than issuing directives like such.
