The Nepal Government in its first stage has issued 0.10 million smart card licenses for the Bagmati Zone.The Asian Development Bank had provided monetary aid of Rs 230 million to the Department to introduce the smart license for operation management. The Department has been working on the plan to expand the system throughout the country under which electronic driving license will be issued instead of paper-based one.
As per current the status the Nepal Government is currently charging NRS 2500 for (Car Approximate ) and Bike Nrs 1700 (Motocycle Approximate ) smart driving license cost nrs 500 per year (appx) whereas private smart debit card cost nrs 350.
The only difference#ADB donated money for the upgrade of smart driving license and still the cost are high ?
DoTM will need around 4 million smart cards to replace all driving licenses and vehicle ownership certificates.
