Bidhya Devi Bhandari the President of Nepal was invited on an official tour by the Indian president Pranab Mukherjee on a five-day official visit . Following the protocol she left Nepal with an official status to India declaring a holiday in Nepal for her travelling arrangement but when she arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, India, she was surprised to be received by India’s Minister of State for Women and Child Development Krishna Raja. The Nepali President arrived here at the friendly invitation of her Indian counterpart where the basic diplomacy code sidelined.
Her position and her invitation was carried on at the presidential level where she was received by a state level minister which made news headline and to some extent gave a relatively understanding of Indian state of diplomacy and how they see diplomatic relationship.
With such action the Nepal office of the president hold an immediate meeting shortening the visit to just 3 days a to the presidential official tour.
This sort of malfunctioning or practice happens in Asia Pacific where diplomatic relationships are marginalized in terms of dealing with developing nations.
Whether right or wrong but for a country like India which is excelling to the top heights of development we can certainly assume that equality is not the forte. Their diplomacy and foreign affair skills are limited within the aspect of developed nation and their practice of highlighting their tradition and culture.
